Man mauled to death by lions in Tirupati Zoo; details ascertained from Aadhar card

In a tragic incident at Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park in Tirupati, a man named Prahlad Gujjar (34) from Rajasthan's Alwar was fatally mauled after entering the lions' enclosure. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon when Gujjar jumped into the buffer zone surrounding the enclosure.

Tirupati Superintendent of Police Mallika Garg explained that a security guard noticed the intrusion and pursued Gujjar. Attempting to evade capture, Gujjar climbed a water tank and scaled the 12-foot-high fence enclosing the lions. Unfortunately, he fell directly in front of the lions, who attacked him, resulting in his immediate death.

The authorities discovered an Aadhaar card on Gujjar, revealing his identity and linking him to Bansur village in Alwar. Investigations revealed a bus ticket from Hyderabad to Tirupati for February 13 in his pocket, suggesting he might have been a driver.

Contacting a mobile number from his Aadhaar card, they reached his friend, who planned to visit the village, inquire about the family, and call back.

The purpose of Gujjar's presence in Tirupati remained unknown, and authorities are exploring potential factors, such as whether he was under the influence of alcohol. Post-mortem results will help determine the cause. Efforts are underway to locate his family to ascertain any possible mental health issues.

Following the tragic incident, the zoo, one of Asia's largest spanning 1,200 acres with numerous animals, closed its gates to visitors.
