A 42-year-old man was shot dead by two unidentified scooter-borne attackers in broad daylight on Wednesday, police said.
Dehradun City Superintendent of Police Pramod Kumar said the incident took place around 10.30 am near the Tibetan Market. The victim, Arjun Sharma, a resident of Indira Nagar in the Vasant Vihar area, was standing near his car at the time.
Kumar said the two assailants arrived on a scooter and opened fire at Sharma. He was rushed to Doon Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
As per the officer, initial inquiry showed that Sharma, who owned Amardeep Gas Agency, was involved in a family dispute related to the business. He said that due to this dispute, Sharma’s mother had approached the Uttarakhand High Court seeking protection, claiming she feared for her life from her son.
Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Singh immediately constituted separate teams to arrest the accused. He also ordered continuous and intensive investigation drives across the district.
This was the second murder reported in the city within ten days. Earlier, on February 2, a man reportedly killed a 22-year-old woman by slitting her throat with a sharp weapon in Machhi Bazaar.
