Damaged road after massive landslide at Baluganj due to Monsoon rainfall, in Shimla, Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2024.

A man died after he was swept away by strong water currents in a flooded drain following heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh's Solan district, as reported by police officials on Wednesday.

The deceased, Shashi Pal, was retrieved by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Wednesday, two kilometres from where he fell into the water.

Pal was travelling from Manjyari to Ramsahar on a motorcycle when he attempted to cross a bridge over the Kattal Nullah, but the surging water level proved fatal.

A police team was promptly dispatched to the scene, but initially unable to locate the victim.

Baddi SP Ilma Afroz swiftly contacted the NDRF, initiating a rescue operation that ultimately recovered Pal's body from Dharmana Kund.

The body has been sent for postmortem examination at the community health centre.
