The search for the intruder who stabbed actor Saif Ali Khan at his Bandra residence continued for the third day, with Mumbai Police intensifying efforts. Despite forming 20 teams, along with 10 Crime Branch teams, and questioning over 30 individuals, the accused remains at large.
The actor was attacked at his 12-story apartment - Satguru Sharan building early on Thursday.
Doctors have confirmed that Khan, who sustained six stab wounds and underwent surgery, is recovering well.
The attack reportedly occurred during a burglary attempt. The intruder, who demanded ₹1 crore, gained entry by scaling the wall of an adjacent compound and using the building’s rear staircase. Entering through the fire escape, he spent approximately 30 minutes inside the flat.
The accused fled the scene and was last seen at Bandra station, according to police sources.
Two CCTV recordings show the suspect, his face covered and carrying a bag, climbing stairs before entering the flat and later fleeing from the sixth floor.
A nurse present at the scene, Eliyama Philips, provided a description of the attacker, identifying him as a man between 35 and 40 years old, of slim build, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall, and with a dark complexion.
One person detained on Friday morning was released but later taken back into custody for further questioning.
The police have also seized CCTV footage from Bandra and are interrogating two additional suspects.
Statements
Actor Kareena Kapoor Khan recorded her statement at her Bandra residence on Friday evening. Among others interviewed was a carpenter who had worked at the actor’s home two days prior to the incident.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed confidence in the police’s ability to solve the case swiftly. “Police investigation is going on… they have got many clues, and I feel the police will soon zero in,” he stated.
Dismissing speculation about underworld involvement, State Minister Yogesh Kadam clarified, “A suspect detained in connection with the attack is not part of any gang. No gang has carried out this attack. The theft was the only motive.”
The incident has prompted questions regarding residential security in Mumbai’s upscale localities, with residents urging stricter surveillance measures.
The case has also sparked political exchanges, with various leaders commenting on the state of law and order.
