Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced the destruction of 4.8 hectares of illicit poppy cultivation in Senapati district, calling it a significant victory in the state’s war on drugs.
In a post on X, Singh said, “In a significant breakthrough in our war on drugs, Senapati Police, Forest department, and district administration have destroyed 4.8 hectares of illicit poppy cultivation at Kangjang Hills, Senapati.”
The operation was carried out on Tuesday, and Singh expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the involved teams.
“I appreciate the teams for their dedication and efforts. The fight against drugs is not just a law enforcement effort but a collective responsibility. I urge all citizens to stand with us in building a drug-free, healthier, and more prosperous Manipur,” he added.
Meanwhile, security forces seized six rockets in Manipur’s Churachandpur district during search operations, police said on Wednesday. The seizures occurred in the Loilamkot and Nalon areas under the jurisdiction of Henglep police station.
Along with the six rockets, one launcher, one country-made mortar (Pompi), one 7.62 mm sniper round, one sniper magazine, and other items were recovered during the operation on Tuesday.
Additionally, two cadres of the proscribed KCP (PWG) were arrested in separate operations on Tuesday from Morok Inkhol village in Imphal East District.
The two militants were allegedly involved in extortion activities, targeting the general public, government officials, and shops in different areas of Imphal. Police said that a 9 mm pistol with a magazine and seven live rounds were seized from the arrested militants.
In other operations, two more militants were arrested from Thoubal and Imphal West districts.
Sapam Paikhomba Meitei (26), a member of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Taibangnganba), was apprehended on Monday from Waithou-Thiyam IVR in Thoubal.
Police seized a wireless handset and six live rounds from his possession.
Similarly, Samom Davidson Meitei (32), alias Loya, a member of the banned KCP (MFL), was arrested from Thongju Pechulampak Pukhri in Imphal West district.
He was accused of extorting shop owners in the Singjamei-Thongju area. A 9 mm pistol and live rounds were seized from him.
