A Border Security Force (BSF) constable, identified as Deepak Chimngakham from Manipur, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday (May 11) after being hit in cross-border shelling from Pakistan in Jammu’s R.S. Pura sector a day earlier, the BSF confirmed.
Constable Chimngakham was among eight BSF personnel injured in the intense shelling from across the border in the early hours of May 10. He attained martyrdom on May 11, according to a post on X by the BSF.
“We salute the supreme sacrifice made by BSF #Braveheart Constable (GD) Deepak Chimngakham in the service of the nation; he sustained fatal injuries during cross-border firing along the International Boundary in R.S. Pura area, Jammu, on 10 May 2025, and attained martyrdom on 11 May 2025,” the BSF said in its statement.

Since the commencement of Operation Sindoor on May 7, the cross-border hostilities have claimed the lives of 18 civilians and seven security personnel, including several from the BSF and the Indian Army, in Jammu and Kashmir.
Tributes have poured in for the fallen soldiers, with Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha paying homage to Sub-Inspector Md. Imtiaz from Bihar, who succumbed to his injuries on May 10, and Army Rifleman Sunil Kumar from Jammu, killed in action on the same day in R.S. Pura.
Subedar Major Pawan Kumar, a resident of Himachal Pradesh, was also killed in Poonch on May 10, where heavy shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) has continued since the operation began.
Army jawan M. Murali Naik from Andhra Pradesh, who joined as an Agniveer, was killed in Poonch on May 8, while Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar Sharma from Haryana lost his life in heavy artillery and mortar firing on May 7.
In addition, Sergeant Surendra Kumar Moga from Rajasthan, posted in the medical wing of the Udhampur airbase, was killed on May 10. Among the 18 civilians killed in the hostilities was Raj Kumar Thapa, the Additional District Development Commissioner of Rajouri, whose house was struck by shelling on May 10.
