Manipur Police have deployed anti-drone systems in response to recent drone and rocket attacks on civilians, with the announcement coming as fresh violence erupted in Jiribam district, resulting in five fatalities.

The move is part of an intensified security strategy in the state, which has been grappling with a surge in violent incidents.

Briefing media persons in Imphal on Saturday, Inspector General of Police (Intelligence) K Kabib stated that the state force has implemented a robust anti-drone system and is in the process of acquiring additional weapons to tackle the threats posed by aerial attacks.

"The state force is closely monitoring the situation, and senior officers have been deployed on the ground. Due to the recent drone attacks, an anti-drone system has been deployed, and the state police are in the process of purchasing additional anti-drone guns, which will be deployed soon," Kabib said.

He further revealed that army helicopters are conducting aerial patrols, and security personnel have been stationed in vulnerable areas to prevent further violence.

Combing operations have been intensified on both the hills and the valley, particularly in areas where long-range rockets and drones have been launched.

"These operations will cover a minimum of 3-5 km, concentrating on these areas," Kabib explained. "The combing operations aim to prevent any further attacks from areas where rockets were fired and drones were launched, both in the hills and the valley."

In the Jiribam district, the situation remains tense after suspected Kuki militants attacked Nungchabi village, leading to the death of an elderly man, Kulendra Singha, aged 63.

An exchange of gunfire occurred between village volunteers and unidentified miscreants near Rashidpur village, resulting in the death of one person, B. Lakhikanta Sharma.

The district police, led by their SP, responded to the incident, later discovering three bodies of miscreants in camouflage uniforms. "Details are yet to be ascertained," Kabib added.

Amidst the rising tensions, Kabib said, "We have activated our social media monitoring cell to identify instigators. We have identified some people who incite and manipulate public emotions, creating lawlessness. We are identifying them on social media and warning that they will be held accountable under relevant sections of the law."

The IGP also reported an attempt to loot arms at the 7th Manipur Rifles Khabeisoi and the 2nd Manipur Rifles in Imphal on Friday evening.

"The combined forces successfully dispersed the mob. Some vehicles belonging to the miscreants were damaged," he said.

Two state police personnel were injured during the skirmish but are reported to be out of danger.

During combing operations on Saturday morning in Loibol Khullen and Tingkai Khullen, bordering Kangpokpi and Bishnupur districts, security forces recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including sophisticated arms, explosives, and a wireless set.
