Over the past week, security forces in Manipur have made significant progress in tackling illegal arms and preventing further violence. A series of coordinated operations across the state resulted in the recovery of 35 weapons, ammunition, and other war-like stores. These operations were carried out by the Army, Assam Rifles, police, and other law enforcement agencies working together.
On 19 January, a joint operation in Bishnupur district led to the recovery of a modified sniper rifle, five 9 mm pistols, two single-barrel rifles, grenades, and ammunition. This was followed by another successful operation on 20 January near the Khuga River, where forces seized a 9 mm submachine gun, a .303 rifle, a country-made mortar, grenade launchers, grenades, and more ammunition. These efforts were supported by the Army, CRPF, and the police.
The same day, in Tengnoupal district on the Indo-Myanmar border, Assam Rifles intercepted a suspected infiltration attempt. They apprehended an individual linked to the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup, a rebel group. In Maohing, Noney district, another operation led to the recovery of a 9 mm country-made pistol, a .303 rifle, grenades, and an improvised projectile launcher.
On 23 January, further seizures were made in Thoubal district, where security forces recovered a country-made pistol, a single-bore rifle, ten hand grenades, and ammunition. Two rebels from the KCP (PWG) group were also arrested. Additional weapons, including carbines, pistols, and mortars, were seized in Jiribam, Chandel, and Imphal West districts.
The most recent operation took place on 25 January in Kakching district, where forces recovered a modified .303 sniper rifle, airgun rifles, grenades, and ammunition. In Sekmai, pistols and rifles were also found.
