The floods in Manipur, triggered by cyclone-induced rainfall, claimed five lives and left 13 people injured.

The Manipur government has announced an immediate relief package of ₹10,000 for each family affected by the recent floods, an official disclosed on Friday. This decision was made during a cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Thursday evening.

The cabinet also addressed various state issues and resolved to form a sub-committee focused on the rehabilitation and resettlement of internally displaced persons (IDPs) impacted by recent ethnic violence. The floods, primarily in the Imphal Valley, have affected more than 1.88 lakh people and damaged over 24,000 houses. These floods were caused by breached river embankments following heavy rains from Cyclone Remal.

Five lives have been lost and 13 people injured due to the ongoing floods, which hit Manipur following severe rainfall triggered by the cyclone. The fatalities occurred in different incidents in Senapati (2) and Imphal West district (3) between May 28 and May 31.

The latest situation report from the Relief & Disaster Management Department, dated May 31, indicates that 1,26,950 individuals across 255 villages or localities have been affected. Additionally, 16,364 houses were damaged and 20,504 stranded people evacuated. The report also mentions that 51 relief camps have been set up to accommodate those displaced.

Floodwaters have impacted 522 hectares of crop areas, and 292 landslides were reported within a span of less than three days in various hill districts of the state. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been deployed in Imphal West and Imphal East districts, while air force, navy, and army personnel are assisting in Imphal West.

Relief materials have been distributed in the districts of Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Jiribam, Noney, Kangpokpi, Tamenglong, Chandel, Churachandpur, Senapati, and Kakching, according to the official report.
