A grieving mother in conflict-hit Manipur has sought justice after her two young children were killed in a midnight projectile attack in Moirang Tronglaobi, underscoring growing concerns over civilian safety in the violence-hit state.
Oinam Binita, the mother of the deceased children, recounted the traumatic night of April 7, saying her children were asleep when the attack struck their home.
“‘Mama, I love you…’ Those were my baby’s last words,” she said, describing the loss as irreparable. “They knew nothing and slept peacefully in my arms.”
She said her younger child stopped responding during the incident, adding that the family had believed they were safe under the protection of security forces.
Her husband, a personnel of the Border Security Force, was on duty at the time. “We slept believing that his fellow security forces would protect us,” she said.

The attack took place in Moirang Tronglaobi, an area that has witnessed heightened tensions amid ongoing ethnic unrest in Manipur.
The killing of the two children has sparked anger among local residents and community members, who have alleged lapses in security and demanded accountability.
Binita described her children as “martyrs” and said she would continue her fight until those responsible are brought to justice.
Authorities have not officially confirmed the identity of the perpetrators. However, sections of the local population suspect the involvement of Kuki militant groups, citing a pattern of similar attacks in recent weeks. Security agencies are yet to issue a detailed update on the investigation.
The incident adds to the mounting civilian toll in Manipur’s prolonged ethnic conflict, which has seen repeated violence, displacement and targeted attacks since tensions escalated.
The killings have also renewed calls for stronger security measures and better protection for civilians, particularly in vulnerable and remote areas.
