In a series of operations against insurgent groups in Manipur, security forces successfully rescued two minors who were allegedly recruited by the banned militant group, People’s Liberation Army (PLA).
The rescue mission took place on March 8, with police recovering the minors from Kakching Bazaar in Kakching district and Wangbal Laikon in Thoubal district.
On the same day, authorities arrested two PLA members—23-year-old Moirangthem Romen Singh and 54-year-old Nongmaithem Mohendro Singh—at Kakching Bazaar. According to police, both were actively involved in recruiting minors into the militant group, raising concerns about insurgents targeting vulnerable youth.
In another operation on March 11, security forces arrested two members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) in Haobam Marak, Imphal West. Four grenades without detonators were seized from them, highlighting the ongoing threat posed by insurgent groups.

In a separate raid, police arrested 45-year-old Ningombam Bonbon Singh, a member of the United People’s Party of Kangleipak (UPPK), in Keirao Wangkhem, Imphal East. He was allegedly involved in extortion, targeting government officials, businesses, and civilians. During the arrest, police seized a .32 pistol with a magazine and eight cartridges.
As part of their continued crackdown on insurgent strongholds, Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Indian Army, destroyed a temporary camp belonging to the United Kuki National Army (UKNA) in Churachandpur district. The camp, which had four bamboo huts, was hidden in a dense forest near Songphu village and was dismantled on March 8.
The UKNA remains outside the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with the central government, prompting heightened military surveillance. In a statement on Tuesday, Assam Rifles reaffirmed their commitment to eliminating insurgent networks and restoring peace in Manipur.
