The Manipur Public Service Commission has rescheduled two papers of the Civil Services Combined Competitive (Mains) Examination, 2022, after a printing error was discovered minutes before candidates were to begin writing on Saturday.

Paper-IV (General Studies-III) and Paper-V (General Studies-IV), which were to be held on 9 November, will now take place on 22 November, the commission said.

Invigilators detected the error when they opened the sealed question paper packets inside the examination hall and found a mismatch between the heading and the actual content. The commission said the printing was handled by a secured press, and the mistake could not be spotted earlier because of stringent confidentiality protocols.

“No official from the MPSC is allowed to see the Question Papers to keep full confidentiality, and the question paper is opened only in front of the candidates in the examination hall,” the notification stated.

Officials stressed that confidentiality would remain the commission’s top priority. “It is the endeavour of the MPSC to keep full confidentiality even at the risk of being not able to detect errors in the printing of the question papers, as confidentiality is paramount,” the commission said.

Controller of Examination Kh. Lalmani Singh issued the clarification from Imphal on 9 November, expressing regret for the inconvenience caused. The commission said it had issued a strong warning to the secured press responsible for the printing.

The rescheduled examinations will be held two weeks later, giving the commission time to print and distribute fresh sets of question papers under reinforced security procedures.
