Till now biometrics of more than 80 refugees have been identified confirming that they have moved from Myanmar.

Biometrics details identification process at Moreh Police Station, Manipur


Biometrics of 24 illegal expats from Myanmar were collected on Thursday in an exercise to identify illegal immigrant carried out by state and central forces of  Maniupur, said Chief Minister N. Biren Singh.

 

This development was reported by the CM on Meta quoting, “...a combined team of DC, Tengnoupal led by Md. Ejaj, SDO, Moreh, E-Coy 5 AR, Moreh and OC, Moreh Police Station along with joint bio-metric team of Tengnoupal conducted search of houses in Govajang Village for purpose of re-verification/re-identification of individuals residing in the village.”

 

The Chief Minister added, “Further biometric exercises will continue in Moreh and adjoining areas. Thanks to all security personnel and other government officials.”

 

Eight males and sixteen females were identified form the neighbouring country that shares 398 Km border with Manipur.

 

"During the exercise, 24 (Male-8, Female-16) of Myanmar origin were identified. Further, their biometric were captured by the team," confirmed, Singh.

 

The identified immigrants were residing in Govajang village of Tengnoupal district in Manipur. The state police was aided by the Assam Rifle personnel and a team of official in cumulating the biometric details in this operation.

 

The exercise of recognising the infiltrators was started way back by the state government however, was put to a sudden halt in May due to the violence outbreak.

 

“The exercise was halted in May last year but was consequently resumed in July,” said an official.

 

Out of the 398 kms long border only 10 km of it has been fenced.

 

“Border Roads Organisation has been given the responsibility of fencing the borders,” shared an official.

 

The operation began on July 15 in Govajang village in proximity to border pillar 80 in Moreh, Manipur.  

Till now biometrics of more than 80 refugees have been identified confirming that they have moved from Mayanmar.

 

Sixty were identified yesterday afternoon. According to the officials, seized illegals immigrants will go through further processing Moreh Police Station.
