Schools across Manipur's valley districts will remain closed indefinitely from November 27, as per a directive issued by the Department of Education (Schools), Manipur.
The closure order applies to all educational institutions, including Government, Government-aided, Private, and Central schools.
The announcement extends an earlier directive issued on November 24.
Zonal Education Officers have been tasked with conveying this decision to all stakeholders and implementing requisite measures in their respective jurisdictions.
The closure has been approved by the state government based on advice from the Home Department considering the safety and well-being of students and staff amid prevailing circumstances.
Parents and school authorities have been urged to remain vigilant and await updates from the Department of Education regarding the reopening schedule.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has announced a boycott of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, condemning the state and central governments for failing to meet their demands within the stipulated timeframe.
In addition, the committee has declared a two-day shutdown of all state and central government offices, exempting essential services and educational institutions.
The Manipur government on Wednesday extended the suspension of mobile internet services for two more days in nine districts until November 29, an order by the home department said.
"The state government, after reviewing the prevailing law and order situation, has decided to continue the suspension of mobile internet and mobile data services, including VSATs and VPN, in the territorial jurisdiction of Imphal West, Imphal East, Kakching, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, Pherzawl, and Jiribam of Manipur for another two days, in public interest," the order said.
After violence escalated in the northeastern state on November 16, the administration suspended internet services initially for two days to prevent anti-social elements from spreading content that might create law and order problems. It has been extended several times since then.
The state government had conditionally lifted the suspension on broadband services (ILL and FTTH) on Tuesday, considering the hardships faced by common people, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, and other offices.
