Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh reported to the state Assembly on Monday that the recent violence has displaced 59,564 people and destroyed 11,133 houses.

Responding to Congress MLA K Ranjit’s query, Singh detailed the scale of the devastation, stating that Rs 25,000 has been disbursed as the first installment to the bank accounts of 2,792 affected individuals under the 'One Family One Lakh' scheme.

"Specifically, 2,156 recipients are in Kangpokpi district and 512 in Bishnupur district," Singh said.

He assured that the remaining funds would be distributed soon, he stated.

Singh highlighted the enormous human impact of the violence, confirming that 59,564 people are now internally displaced.

"The cabinet had earlier decided that the initial compensation would be provided to those whose homes were completely gutted," he said.

The Chief Minister acknowledged delays in disbursement due to land ownership issues. He emphasized that efforts are underway to resolve these complications swiftly.

Since May last year, ethnic violence between Imphal Valley-based Meiteis and hill-dwelling Kuki-Zo groups has led to over 200 deaths and thousands of homeless victims.

The government is working to address the aftermath of this prolonged conflict, seeking to provide relief and rebuild affected communities.
