The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday launched a large-scale anti-terror operation in the border district of Poonch, targeting suspected terror hideouts and Over Ground Workers (OGWs), officials confirmed. The current operation seeks to further weaken terrorist support.

Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday conducted anti-terror raids at multiple places in the border district of Poonch, officials said. The raids are underway at eight locations in Soujian and adjoining areas, the officials said. According to official sources, the raids were conducted simultaneously at eight different locations in Soujian and nearby areas, situated close to the Line of Control (LoC). The move is seen as part of an intensified crackdown to dismantle terror infrastructure and counter attempts by Pakistan-based terror outfits to revive militant activities in the region.

Police sources said the operation was launched following credible intelligence inputs about cross-border handlers trying to reactivate local sleeper cells and misguide vulnerable youth through digital platforms and clandestine channels. “This operation is aimed at choking the support base and ensuring that no ground worker remains active to aid militant activities,” said a senior police official overseeing the action.

The police have also indicated that the raids were conducted to investigate links between local suspects and Pakistan-based operatives believed to be involved in recent infiltration bids and arms-dropping incidents. Sensitive documents, digital devices, and SIM cards have been seized during the raids and are being examined for further leads.Earlier this month, the police had carried out similar search operations at over 60 locations across Poonch, targeting individuals suspected of acting as OGWs—those who provide logistics, shelter, and intelligence support to active militants.

The fresh round of searches is a continuation of those efforts, aiming to neutralize support networks and prevent any resurgence of militancy in the strategically sensitive border district. No arrests have been officially confirmed yet, and the raids are still ongoing. Security forces continue to remain on high alert in the region.

It may be recalled in April this year Romeo Force personnel also launched raids in response of which one of the security personnel got injured near the Lasana village located on the National Highway connecting Poonch to Jammu.
