In a significant development in the excise constable recruitment examination paper leak case, Ranchi Police have arrested alleged kingpin, Amrit Raj alias Bulbul, from Bihar’s Saharsa district.
The accused works as a clerk with the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation in Siliguri, West Bengal.
According to police officials, Amrit Raj came under the scanner during the interrogation of other accused already arrested in the case. After gathering intelligence that he had travelled to his hometown in Saharsa while on leave, a special team from Ranchi Police carried out a raid and took him into custody.
During initial questioning, the accused is said to have admitted involvement in the paper leak operation. He has been sent to judicial custody, and police have moved the court seeking his remand for detailed interrogation.

Investigators suspect that questioning him in custody may help uncover the larger network involved in the examination scam and lead to the arrest of several other absconding members. Sources said the racket had links not only in Ranchi but also in multiple other locations.
Ranchi Headquarters DSP-1 Amar Pandey said 166 accused have so far been arrested and jailed in connection with the case.
The case first surfaced on April 11 when Ranchi Police conducted a raid at an under-construction nursing college building in Radgaon under Tamar police station area.
During the operation, 159 candidates and members of a solver gang were detained. Police investigations later revealed that candidates were allegedly supplied with answers to expected questions ahead of the April 12 examination in exchange for nearly Rs 3 lakh each.
Police said the investigation is continuing and efforts are underway to dismantle the entire syndicate behind the recruitment examination fraud.
