A mazar in Tauru town of Nuh district was vandalised on Sunday night, just ahead of the Brij Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra, the police said on Monday. With memories still fresh of the violent clashes during the religious procession two years ago, the authorities ramped up security across the region to ensure peace is maintained.
The individuals responsible for the vandalism have not been unidentified yet, officials said. In response, heavy police deployment was made at the mazar located in Sainipura mohalla of Tauru.
“Necessary action is being taken by the administration in connection with the damage to the mazar in Tauru. It will be ensured that the Jalabhishek yatra is organised in a peaceful and harmonious environment in the district,” said Nuh Deputy Commissioner Vishram Kumar Meena.
He added that all officials have been directed to stay alert and make thorough preparations in their areas. Duty magistrates and police personnel were deployed across the district, and devotees visited temples for prayers. The yatra began from Nalheshwar Temple in Nuh, approximately 50 km from Gurugram.
"There is an atmosphere of peace in all areas. The general public is appealed to trust only official information," Meena said.
In 2023, six people, including two home guards and a cleric from a Gurugram mosque were killed in violent clashes that broke out when a mob attacked a Vishva Hindu Parishad procession.
This year, around 2,500 police personnel have been deployed in Nuh to prevent any untoward incident. All government and private schools have been shut, and mobile internet services have been suspended.
