Municipal Corporation of Shimla has allotted 23 small parking lots, lying vacant, has been allotted to the town residents on first- come-first-serve-basis.
The decision came in to resolve the parking issue that people have been facing.
The 23 vacant parking lots are in Tutikandi, Khalini, Kaithu, Kanlog, Kacchighat wards, besides others, according to the MC office.
The town residents can apply for the same either by visiting the MC office or by contacting the councillor.
Commissioner Bhuwan Sharma confirmed that the decision had been taken to provide parking space to the local residents in the town.
An advertisement would also be issued regarding the same next week.
Earlier, the civic body had issued tenders thrice to invite contractors to run these parking lots, but the results were hampered.
The decision was also to turn these parking lots into community halls to generate revenue, however, several councillors in a recent monthly meeting suggested that it be given to the residents, instead.
In another decision, all 34 wards of the town will be marked as yellow line markings.These yellow line parking lots will also be allotted to the residents.
With this, the corporation not only aims to reduce the parking problem in the town but also hopes to generate additional revenue for itself.
