The Meghalaya BJP has presented a roster of 11 potential candidates for the Shillong and Tura Lok Sabha seats, pending confirmation from the central leadership for the final selection in the announcement of the candidates for the two constituencies in Meghalaya.
For the Shillong Lok Sabha constituency, the list of hopeful candidates includes AL Hek, Ernest Mawrie, Mewaker Lyngdoh, Dr Fenela Lyngdoh Nonglait, and Sumitra Laloo.
Meanwhile, for the Tura Lok Sabha seat, the BJP ticket aspirants are Bernard N Marak, Tura MDC; Winnerson D Sangma, former MLA; Boston Marak; Riya Sangma; KC Boro; and Thomas Marak.
However, Meghalaya BJP president Rikman G Momin refrained from officially disclosing the names, stating that there are five contenders for the Tura parliamentary seat and six for the Shillong constituency.
When questioned about the delay in announcing the candidates, Momin attributed it to being a central matter. He anticipated that the names might be officially unveiled in the third list shortly.
Regarding the party’s preparedness for the upcoming elections, Momin expressed their eagerness to participate, highlighting ongoing campaign activities and party initiatives.
Meanwhile, the National People’s Party (NPP), BJP’s ally in the MDA, has already declared its candidates. Meghalaya cabinet minister Ampareen Lyngdoh will contest from the Shillong seat, while incumbent Tura MP Agatha Sangma will retain her ticket.
The Congress and TMC have also revealed their candidates. Incumbent MP Vincent Pala and MLA Saleng A Sangma will represent the Congress for the Shillong and Tura seats, respectively. Zenith Sangma has been nominated by the TMC for the Tura seat.
