A case has been registered against a Meghalaya Police sub-inspector, Habanjob Khonglah, for allegedly sexually harassing a woman lawyer, a senior police officer said on Tuesday.
The accused officer has been transferred, though no arrest has been made so far.
According to police, the victim lodged a complaint at the Khliehriat Women Police Station in East Jaintia Hills district on Monday, accusing Khonglah of sending inappropriate messages and exposing himself via video call.
The complainant further alleged that the officer-in-charge of Lad Rymbai Police Outpost had touched her hand when she visited the station for legal matters.

District police chief Vivekanand Singh confirmed the case, stating, "A case has been registered against him (Khonglah). He has been transferred from Lad Rymbai Out Post and investigation is going on."
When asked about the lack of an arrest despite the serious allegations, Singh said, "It is the Investigation Officer's discretion whether to arrest or not. If required, he will be arrested since the charge against him is punishable with three years’ imprisonment and arrest is not mandatory in such cases."
He added that the accused officer was cooperating with the investigation.
