Meghalaya police seize anti-aircraft ammunition in jungle raid

A total of 340 anti-aircraft munitions stored in iron boxes were found suspecting ULFA/GNLA links.

In a pre-dawn raid, Meghalaya police unearthed a cache of live anti-aircraft ammunition from a jungle close to Chibokgre village in South Garo Hills district.

The seized rounds are suspected to belong to militant groups operating in the region, possibly the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) or the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA).

The recovery comes amidst past instances of hidden stockpiles being found in the dense forests bordering Bangladesh.

"We received information from a reliable source about suspected militants hiding ammunition boxes in the Chibokgre jungle," informed Shailendra Bamania, the South Garo Hills police chief.

Investigations are currently underway to ascertain the origin and intended use of the seized weaponry.
