Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti said on Tuesday that she had held detailed discussions with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann over the repeated harassment of Kashmir-based mutton dealers in the state.
In a post on X, Mufti said she raised the issues faced by dealers associated with the mutton trade from Kashmir at the Shambhu border under provisions of the Cattle Fair Trade Act.
Her post read: “Spoke with Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann ji about Kashmir mutton dealers reportedly being stopped and harassed by contractors in the name of the Cattle Fair Act at Madhopur, Punjab, and the Shambhu border. He was kind enough to assure me of prompt action.”
She thanked the Chief Minister for his intervention and expressed hope that the issue would be resolved soon.
The conversation between the two leaders came amid growing complaints from several mutton dealers regarding difficulties and harassment while transporting livestock outside Jammu and Kashmir, particularly at the Punjab border.
