To raise the issue of hundreds of Kashmiri students stranded in Tehran amid the ongoing war in the region, Jammu and Kashmir’s Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti and MLA Budgam Aga Syed Muntazir visited the Iranian Cultural Centre and Embassy in the national capital on Monday.

The delegation met representatives of the Iranian Embassy and expressed deep concern over the safety of students studying and residing in Iran. Mehbooba Mufti urged the officials to make immediate arrangements for the safe and expeditious return of the students to Kashmir.

She also extended heartfelt condolences on behalf of the people of Jammu and Kashmir over the assassination of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

In a statement issued after the meeting, Mehbooba Mufti said, “I visited the Iranian Cultural Centre and Embassy in Delhi to offer condolences to the people of Iran in these hard times and also paid tribute to the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.” She added that the primary purpose of the visit was to urge Iranian authorities to ensure the students’ safety until they could safely return home.

Meanwhile, the Iran war entered its 10th day on Monday with neither side showing any willingness to commit to a ceasefire or end hostilities.  The United States has maintained that it will accept only unconditional surrender from Iran, while Tehran has vowed to continue its resistance for a prolonged period.

The situation across the Middle East remains highly tense and volatile, with the risk of escalation into a broader global conflict hanging over the region with just one miscalculation or spark from either side.
