The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has formally extended its invitation to representatives of Ladakh’s two sub-committees, Leh Apex Body (LAB) and Kargil Development Authority (KDA) for a fresh round of negotiations with the high-powered committee on January 15.
A meeting notice issued by the MHA said that the meeting is likely to take place in the north block at 11:30 am in New Delhi.
The notice has been sent to all the members of the subcommittee, besides other key stakeholders.
The meeting will be chaired by Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai and will be attended by top officials of the Union Home Ministry, including Home Secretary Govind Mohan and Joint Secretary Incharge Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh, sources close to the matter informed reporters.
Among those joining the subcommittee meeting are Thupstan Chhewang, Chering Dorjay Lakruk Nawang Rigzin Jora (LAB), Qamar Ali Akhoon, Asgar Ali Karbalai, and Sajjad Kargili (KDA).
Lok Sabha members from Ladakh Haneefa Jan, Chairpersons-cum-CECs of Hill Councils for Leh and Kargil and Advisor to Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Pawan Kotwal are also supposed to attend this crucial meeting.
Lakruk also told reporters that (LAB and KDA) will hold a joint meeting in New Delhi on January 14
Before the talks with the Union Home Ministry to finalise the issues to be taken up by them at the meeting.
During their last meeting with a centrally nominated high-powered committee, it was decided that “95 per cent of the jobs would be reserved for the local population." While MHA denied extending the sixth schedule status to Ladakh by terming it an impossible condition in the four-point agenda.
Four agendas of LAB and KDA on which they have been agitating for quite a long time include statehood, sixth schedule status, a dedicated Public Services Commission (PSC) and two parliamentary seats for Ladakh.
Despite several rounds of talks between the stakeholders and MHA, the deadlock over the 6th schedule persists.
