Terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir has been curbed, but the mission to fully eradicate the scourge remains incomplete, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Tuesday during his ongoing visit to the Union Territory.
Shah, who is on a three-day official tour of J&K, met with the families of ten policemen and an engineer killed in militant attacks over the past year. The meeting took place at the Raj Bhawan, where he offered floral tributes and expressed his gratitude to the bereaved families.
“We are proud of the sacrifice of our brave policemen who laid down their lives to protect our country, our homes, and our future. Today, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, significant progress has been achieved in tackling terrorism and ending separatist ideology. Our mission is still not accomplished because terrorism has been curbed, but it has not been eliminated,” the Home Minister said.
Shah handed over nine appointment letters to the nominees of the deceased on compassionate grounds. He urged the Jammu and Kashmir administration to ensure the compassionate appointment of 12-year-old Yuvraj Singh, son of martyr Jaswant Singh, once he attains adulthood.
The Union Minister also paid his respects to the family of Abrol, a Deputy Manager-cum-Designer with APCO Construction Company, who was killed in Gagangir.
Officials said that among those who met Shah were the kin of four policemen who lost their lives in a recent gunfight with Pakistani terrorists in the Kathua district.
Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat were among those present at the occasion.
Later in the day, Shah interacted with Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, praising the troops for their commitment and courage in executing duties under difficult circumstances.
He reiterated that the Central Government is steadfast in its commitment to the welfare of security personnel and their families.
