Militants ambushed an army vehicle in the Akhnoor area of Jammu district on Monday morning. Officials reported that the attackers opened fire on the vehicle, but the army effectively retaliated, forcing the militants to flee the scene.

Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported from the incident. In response, security forces have dispatched additional reinforcements to the area and initiated a search operation to track down the assailants.

This ambush follows a deadly attack on Thursday in north Kashmir, where militants ambushed an army vehicle in Botapathri, Gulmarg, resulting in the deaths of three army personnel and two porters, with two others severely injured.

Prior to that, another attack occurred in the Gagangir area of Ganderbal district, killing seven individuals, including a local doctor associated with the Z-Morh tunnel, and injuring five others.

Today’s ambush marks the fifth attack in less than 15 days. Additional incidents in south Kashmir’s Shopian and Pulwama districts resulted in the death of a migrant and injuries to another in alleged militant assaults.

In response to the recent surge in violence, the administration has granted security forces a free hand to hunt down and neutralise those involved in these attacks.

Jammu is currently experiencing a severe resurgence of militancy, with areas such as Reasi, Rajouri, Kathua, Doda, Udhampur, and Akhnoor becoming hotspots for militant activity.

Security forces have encountered challenges in neutralising militants hiding in dense forests and rugged terrain.

The anti-militancy grid in Kashmir has been bolstered to address this evolving threat, despite militants successfully executing two significant attacks in the relatively peaceful Kashmir Valley this year. Officials remain optimistic that those responsible for the recent violence will be neutralised soon.
