Two villages in Manipur’s Imphal West district came under attack on Saturday as suspected militants launched assaults involving gunfire and explosives.
The first incident unfolded around 7 p.m. in Koutruk Village, near Lamshang Police Station, where militants attacked Koutruk Ching Leikai and Awang Leikai, reportedly using advanced weaponry.
Local sources indicate security forces stationed nearby, with support from village volunteers, responded swiftly, resulting in a prolonged exchange of gunfire.
During the confrontation, a drone, allegedly operated by militants from the Bethel area, approached the village, raising fears of potential aerial explosives.
This assault marks the second attack in Koutruk this month, following a similar incident on October 16 involving bombs and gunfire.
In a separate attack around 9:15 p.m., militants targeted Tronglaobi Village in Bishnupur district. Villagers and Moirang volunteers responded, engaging the attackers, reportedly firing from the Geljang and Molshang areas.
