ACME Welfare Foundation, New Delhi, in collaboration with Tashvika India Food Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi, has joined as a 'Nikshay Mitra' in Himachal Pradesh to boost TB elimination efforts in the region and support persons with TB. In a unique initiative, they have reached out to TB patients with nutrition kits made from millet-based foods, which have a very low glycemic index and help in reducing and managing diseases.
According to experts, it is a super-healthy food for TB patients as well as for the general population.
A release by the ACME Welfare Foundation said these nutrition kits were designed after extensive brainstorming to provide maximum possible nutrition to TB patients. Millets are rich in micronutrients such as Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, protein, iron, folic acid, zinc, and dietary fiber. The idea was to help TB patients recover as quickly as possible, since research and experience show that in the initial two months, if TB patients are provided with high-nutrition diets, their recovery improves significantly. Keeping this in mind, Tashvika India Food Pvt. Ltd., through their technology transferred from CSIR-IHBT, Palampur, and ICAR-IIMR, Hyderabad, has created specialized nutrition food baskets.
Simultaneously, a Millet Awareness Workshop was conducted in collaboration with Rotary Club Dharamshala, Rotary Club Dharamshala Central, and Inner Wheel Club Dharamshala, Inner Wheel Club Dharamshala Central, Himachal Pradesh at Zonal Hospital Dharamshala on September 4, 2025.
During the workshop, Sadhvi Pandey, Founder and Managing Director, highlighted the numerous health benefits of millets and explained in detail how they can be beneficial for pregnant women, undernutrition and malnutrition cases, people struggling with obesity, cardiovascular diseases, liver disorders, TB, anemia, cancer, and even fertility issues.
She also elaborated on the correct methods of cooking millets, as many people are still unaware of how to use them properly—particularly when it comes to kneading millet flour (atta) and preparing millet rice varieties such as Little Millet, Foxtail Millet, Proso Millet, Kodo Millet, and Barnyard Millet.
The products of Tashvika India Food Pvt. Ltd., under the brand name “AMRIT BHOJANAM”, were included in the Nikshay Mitra Food Baskets.
A total of 30 kits for the first 10 TB patients (for three months) were handed over to the District Health Department, Dharamshala. The remaining 30 kits shall be distributed over the next three months.
