As many as 40 passengers had a miraculous escape in J&K’s Rajouri district on Saturday when the bus they were travelling in skidded off the road and stopped just a few inches from the edge of a cliff.
The bus was travelling on its routine route from the Gambhir Mughalan area to Rajouri when the driver lost control, which veered dangerously close to a 300-foot-deep river gorge, narrowly averting a major tragedy.
Shortly after the incident, the Indian Army Rashtriya Rifles battalion from the Gambhir camp (Romeo Force), who were deployed nearby for area domination duties in connection with the Baba Budha Amarnath Yatra, rushed to the spot.
Following the accident, the army troops quickly launched a rescue operation and provided first aid to around twelve passengers who sustained minor injuries and bruises.
Earlier on Thursday, a driver was killed in a road accident near the Kewal Khawas area of Rajouri district.
An official said that the deceased has been identified as Sarfraz Ahmed, son of Mohammad Arif, a resident of Delari Badhal, Tehsil Khawas. The vehicle involved was a dumper bearing registration number JK11F-7916.
Besides, on June 25, two women passengers were killed and nine others sustained serious injuries when a tempo traveller and a mini load carrier collided head-on in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri.
