In an incident that exposes the audacity of criminals in Ranchi, unidentified miscreants in Ranchi have demanded ₹50 lakh as extortion from Union Minister of State for Defence and Ranchi MP Sanjay Seth.
The culprits have threatened the minister with severe consequences if the payment is not made within three days.
Seth, who is currently attending the Winter Session of Parliament in Delhi, received the extortion demand via a text message on his mobile phone.
Following the revelation, security agencies and police swiftly went on high alert.
The Union Minister promptly reported the incident to the Delhi Police. Senior officials, including the Commissioner of Police, visited his residence to gather details and assess the situation.
Sources revealed that initial investigations suggest the threatening message originated from the Hosir area of Ranchi.
Considering the gravity of the matter, Delhi Police informed Jharkhand Director-General of Police Anurag Gupta. Jharkhand Police have since launched a parallel investigation into the case.
“This is the first instance of a Union Minister being threatened with extortion originating from Ranchi,” a source remarked.
As a precautionary measure, Sanjay Seth’s security has been tightened. Both the Delhi and Jharkhand police are conducting thorough investigations into the matter.
