A potential accident was averted on Tuesday morning after a chartered aircraft landed on an old runway instead of the newly operational one at Maharaja Agrasen International Airport in Hisar. During the landing, a reflective runway marker came loose because of the wrong landing and struck with the aircraft's engine.
The aircraft was carrying the mortal remains of Nand Kishore Goenka, father of former Rajya Sabha MP and Zee Group founder Subhash Chandra. Goenka, 96, passed away in Mumbai on Monday.
According to sources, the pilot mistakenly landed the aircraft on the old runway, which is no longer in use, instead of the new airstrip that has been handling flight operations in recent days. While landing, a reflective marker, commonly known as a 'cat's eye', became dislodged and hit the engine. No major damage or injuries have been reported.
Airport officials have taken note of the incident and begun assessing the circumstances. An official said the preliminary assessment suggests the incident may have occurred due to pilot’s fault. Further examination is underway.
