The Indian Navy has successfully located the trainee aircraft (Cessna-152 VT Taj) from Alchemist Aviation, which had been missing since August 20.
The aircraft was discovered in the Koyalgadh area of the Chandil Dam in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, on Monday.
The search operation, which began on Sunday at 9 am, involved four motor boats and focused on the areas around Kistopur and Kalyanpur.
After moving approximately 2 km, the team received the first signal from a super sonar near the submerged village of Koyalgadh.
Two Navy divers were initially sent into the murky and dark waters, but they were unable to reach the plane on their first attempt.
On their second attempt, however, the divers successfully located the aircraft, which was found at a depth of 15 meters.
The plane was discovered overturned, with its three wheels facing upward. The divers recovered one of the plane's wings and marked the location for further operations.
The Navy will now use a large gas-filled balloon to assist in retrieving the plane. The balloon, with a capacity greater than the plane’s weight, will be used to lift the aircraft.
The Navy's technical team will secure the plane with ropes and pull it up with the balloon.
Given the plane's weight of approximately 800 kg, the operation will require careful handling. It is estimated that the entire retrieval process will take about four hours.
Previously, the Navy had recovered the bodies of the pilot and a trainee from the dam.
