The decomposed body of a young woman, missing for nearly three weeks, was recovered from a beach near Henry Island in Bakkhali, South 24 Parganas. The police have arrested her boyfriend, Jiarul Sardar, in connection with the murder.

The victim, identified as Abia Bibi, had reportedly travelled to Bakkhali on May 16 with Sardar. While he returned home alone, Abia remained untraceable. Concern grew among her family when repeated attempts to contact her failed. Subsequently, a missing person complaint was filed at Bakultala Police Station.

"We launched a search operation. Nearly three weeks later, suspicion fell on Sardar, who was detained for questioning last Thursday. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime," said a police officer.

According to police sources, Sardar admitted to killing Abia and burying her body in the sand at a secluded beach on Henry Island in an attempt to destroy evidence. Based on his statement, police took him to the location, where the body was recovered after digging at the indicated spot.

The remains were sent to Kakdwip Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Abia and Sardar were involved in an extramarital relationship that had been facing severe strain. Police believe ongoing conflict and resentment may have led to the murder, with Sardar allegedly luring Abia to Bakkhali before carrying out the crime.

Family members of the deceased have demanded strict and exemplary punishment for the accused. Police are continuing their investigation to determine whether Sardar acted alone or if others were involved in the crime.
