The Mizoram government has approved a 4 per cent increase in dearness allowance (DA) for its employees, raising it from 40 per cent to 44 per cent of basic pay with effect from November 1. The decision was taken during a meeting of the Council of Ministers chaired by Chief Minister Lalduhoma, a senior official said.
The cabinet has also cleared a further 2 per cent revision that will come into force on April 1, 2026, taking the DA to 46 per cent. The move is aimed at cushioning state government employees against the rising cost of living at a time when Mizoram, like many northeastern states, continues to navigate fiscal constraints following the pandemic years.
Despite the latest revision, the official noted that state government employees remain behind their central government counterparts, who currently receive around 53 per cent of their basic pay as DA. The disparity has been a long-standing concern among state employees, particularly as Mizoram follows its own resource-linked path for pay adjustments, unlike the central government’s periodic revisions linked to the Consumer Price Index.

The last DA hike in Mizoram came in October 2023, when the allowance was increased from 36 per cent to 40 per cent, marking a gap of over a year before the current revision. Officials said the latest round of increases reflects the state’s gradual fiscal stabilisation under the new administration.
In another decision, the Council of Ministers approved a special incentive allowance for police personnel and staff in the assistant sub-inspector rank and below who are serving on deputation to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). The move is aimed at strengthening the state’s anti-corruption framework and improving operational efficiency within the bureau.
