Aizawl’s security grid along the Indo–Myanmar frontier has yielded measurable results, with Mizoram officials reporting a sharp fall in drug trafficking and the smuggling of Burmese areca nuts into the state.
The assessment was shared at a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Wednesday, where the Home Department and the Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation Department presented progress on ongoing initiatives.
According to the Home Department, 12 police stations and 10 Assam Rifles duty posts are currently functional along the 510-km Mizoram–Myanmar border, forming the backbone of the tightened security network.

Officials told the meeting that enhanced deployment had significantly curtailed the cross-border flow of narcotics and illegal areca nuts, both persistent problems for the hill state.
The briefing also highlighted steps to operationalise border haats, with work set to begin on the first market at Zote in Champhai district as a pilot project under instructions from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Officials said 21,238 people have been issued border passes under the Free Movement Regime since October, reflecting the regulated but continued movement of communities living along the frontier.
