Mizoram government has intensified their crackdown on narcotics trafficking, with enforcement agencies targeting the smuggling and distribution of illegal drugs across the border state.
In a destruction drive conducted on Monday at the premises of Serchhip Police Station, officials disposed of seized narcotic substances valued at over Rs 70 lakh. The destroyed contraband included 220 grams of heroin and 89 grams of crystal methamphetamine, all seized during the 2025–26 financial year.
Methamphetamine — commonly referred to as a “crazy drug” — is a highly addictive psychostimulant banned under Indian law, with strict penalties for its possession, trafficking and use. Officials said the destruction exercise forms part of a sustained effort to dismantle drug trafficking networks operating in the region.
According to Mizoram Police, anti-drug operations have been significantly intensified in recent months. Between January and June 2026, law enforcement agencies seized narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances worth over Rs 414 crore and arrested 312 accused in connection with drug-related offences.
Sharing international borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh, Mizoram remains a key transit corridor for narcotics entering India. Officials noted that the state continues to be a major focus area for coordinated enforcement and anti-smuggling operations aimed at curbing the illegal drug trade.
