The government of Mizoram will roll out a dedicated mobile application, ‘MizoTaxi’, from July 1 in a bid to regulate public transport fares, curb overcharging, and introduce a unified digital system for commuters and operators, officials said on Saturday.
The initiative will be launched initially in Aizawl, where it will function as a fare verification and digital payment platform covering taxis, bike taxis and auto-rickshaws operating within the state capital.
According to an official statement, the app has been designed to ensure that passengers are charged only government-approved fare rates while providing transparency in billing and improving accountability among service providers.
As part of the rollout, all four-wheeler taxi operators, two-wheeler taxi riders and auto-rickshaw drivers in Aizawl have been instructed to complete registration on the MizoTaxi platform during June. Authorities have emphasised that the registration drive is mandatory for continued operation once the system becomes fully functional.

Transport operators who register within the stipulated period will be required to pay an annual fee of Rs 600. However, those who fail to register within June and join later will have to pay a higher fee of Rs 1,000 per year, officials said.
The notification, issued by the Secretary of the State Transport Authority (STA), said the application has been developed in collaboration with the Government of Mizoram, Digiride Technology Pvt. Ltd., and National Institute of Technology Mizoram.
Officials said the platform will initially operate only in Aizawl, but there are plans for phased expansion to other districts across the state in subsequent stages, depending on its performance and adoption rate.
The government expects the digital system to significantly reduce fare disputes, eliminate arbitrary pricing practices, and integrate multiple modes of transport under a single regulated framework. It is also expected to enhance convenience for passengers through transparent fare calculation and cashless transactions.
The ‘MizoTaxi’ app is already available for download on both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, enabling both commuters and operators to familiarise themselves with the platform ahead of its official launch.
Authorities have described the initiative as a major step towards modernising and digitising Mizoram’s transport ecosystem, aiming to create a more efficient, regulated and commuter-friendly system for both passengers and service providers.
