Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Assam on February 14 to inaugurate major infrastructure projects in Guwahati and Kokrajhar, while Union Home Minister Amit Shah will travel to Dibrugarh on January 30 to lay the foundation stone for the state’s second legislative assembly complex.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made the announcement during a Facebook Live interaction from Davos, where he is attending the World Economic Forum annual meeting.
The Prime Minister’s February visit will include the inauguration of a bridge over the Brahmaputra connecting two parts of Guwahati and the new Indian Institute of Management campus in the city. Modi is also likely to lay the foundation stone of a railway coach manufacturing factory at Kokrajhar and inaugurate several other development projects.

The visit will be Modi’s third to Assam in the past three months, underlining sustained central engagement with the state. The series of high-level visits comes ahead of Assembly elections due in Assam next year, with the Bharatiya Janata Party seeking to foreground infrastructure expansion, connectivity and administrative capacity-building in the Northeast.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit on January 30 will take him to Dibrugarh, where he will lay the foundation stone for Assam’s second legislative assembly complex and address a public rally. Sarma said the project reflects the Centre’s focus on strengthening administrative infrastructure in Upper Assam.
The Chief Minister also said that a Peace Area and an Advanced Landing Facility are being developed at Moran in Dibrugarh district. Once operational, these facilities are expected to significantly reduce travel time between Dibrugarh and Itanagar by enabling direct flights, alongside improved highway connectivity.
