PM Narendra Modi will inaugurate Bhogapuram International Airport and key GMR education projects in Andhra Pradesh on August 1.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate a cluster of major infrastructure and education projects alongside the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram in Andhra Pradesh on August 1, marking a significant milestone in the development of North Coastal Andhra as an aviation, logistics and knowledge hub.

Reviewing preparations for the Prime Minister’s visit, the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu directed officials to organise the inaugural event on a grand scale, describing the Bhogapuram airport as the “jewel of North Andhra” and a transformative project for the region.

According to officials, apart from inaugurating the airport’s passenger terminal building, the Prime Minister will also dedicate the GMR Skill Development Centre, the GMR Aviation Hub-University, and the GMR-MANSAS Edu City to the nation. The integrated projects are expected to strengthen the airport ecosystem by creating a pipeline of skilled aviation professionals, expanding higher education opportunities and attracting investments in aviation-linked services.

Calling the airport a landmark infrastructure project, Naidu said it would provide global connectivity, emerge as a logistics hub for eastern India and become a key driver of Andhra Pradesh’s economic growth. The airport is also expected to catalyse industrial development, tourism and employment across the North Coastal districts.

The Chief Minister instructed officials to accord a traditional welcome to Prime Minister Modi, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of North Andhra during the inauguration ceremony.

In a gesture recognising the contribution of local communities, Naidu directed officials to offer a one-time complimentary air journey to farmers and landowners who had parted with their land for the airport project.

To ensure smooth conduct of the event, the Chief Minister ordered comprehensive arrangements, including traffic management, dedicated parking facilities, public amenities and a robust security plan.

Naidu also directed officials to launch an extensive awareness campaign on the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport from July 22 to July 31, saying the inauguration should be celebrated as a people’s event across the North Andhra region. Public representatives have been asked to actively participate in outreach programmes during the ten-day campaign.

The Chief Minister further suggested leveraging the occasion to strengthen the branding of Araku Coffee, noting that Prime Minister Modi has promoted the premium tribal coffee at international forums. He said the airport inauguration presents an opportunity to showcase North Andhra’s tourism, agricultural and industrial potential to a wider audience.

The Bhogapuram airport, being developed by the GMR Group, is expected to become Andhra Pradesh’s second international airport and a strategic gateway for North Coastal Andhra, supporting passenger traffic, cargo movement and long-term economic development.
