The CBI court in Mohali has delivered its verdict in the 18-year-old Moga sex scandal case, sentencing the accused police officials to five years of imprisonment and imposing a fine of ₹2 lakh on each of them.
This long-pending case, which had drawn widespread attention and outrage, has finally reached a legal conclusion nearly two decades after the initial incident.
The convicted officers include the then Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Davinder Singh Garcha, former Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Moga Paramdeep Singh Sandhu, former Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station City Moga Raman Kumar, and then SHO of Police Station Moga Inspector Amarjit Singh. All four were held accountable for their involvement in the scandal, which involved grave misconduct and abuse of power.
The complainant in the case has expressed satisfaction with the court’s decision, stating that justice, though delayed, has ultimately been served.
The Moga sex scandal dates back to 2007, when Manjeet Kaur, along with her husband and two other minor girls, was arrested under controversial circumstances. In 2013, they were granted bail, and Manjeet Kaur later turned government witness in the case, providing crucial testimony that helped sustain the investigation.

Tragically, Manjeet Kaur and her husband were shot dead in 2018 in Zira, a grim twist in a case already marked by years of delay and complexity. Despite their deaths, the legal proceedings continued, and the CBI court has now concluded the matter by convicting the four police officers involved.
The judgment marks a significant moment in the fight for justice in cases of sexual exploitation and official misconduct, especially involving those in positions of authority.
