Himachal Pradesh continues to reel under the impact of devastating monsoon rains that have left a deep scar across the state. From June 20 to July 20, a total of 125 people have lost their lives, according to official reports shared on Sunday.
The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) said 70 deaths were caused by natural disasters like landslides, flashfloods, cloudbursts, and other rain-related incidents. The remaining 55 individuals died in road accidents during this period.
The State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) also reported that as of 5 pm on July 20, 142 roads are still blocked, 40 water supply systems remain disrupted, and 26 power transformers are not working due to widespread rain damage.
A detailed breakdown shows that among the 70 disaster-related deaths, 14 were caused by cloudbursts, 12 by drowning, eight by flashfloods, six by electrocution, and three by landslides. Others died from lightning, fire, snake bites, and similar causes.
Nearly, 55 individuals lost their lives in road accidents; Una and Solan districts reported the highest toll with eight deaths each, followed by Shimla and Kullu with seven each, and Kinnaur and Chamba with six each.
The damage to public services is most severe in Mandi, where 91 roads are blocked, followed by Kullu with 33. Water and electricity supply has also been badly affected in these districts.
Emergency response teams are working round-the-clock to restore roads and essential services. SDMA and local officials continue to monitor the situation closely.
People have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, especially during heavy rain, and to report any signs of landslides or slope cracks. The SDMA helpline 1070 is open 24/7 for help in emergencies.
While temporary repairs have been made in some places, full restoration of essential services is still underway. The authorities have urged everyone to stay alert and follow safety advisories.
