Schools across Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) found themselves at the center of a security scare this morning as bomb threats prompted swift evacuations and police investigations.
The threats, communicated via PCR calls, targeted prominent educational institutions including Sanskriti School in Chanakyapuri, Mayur Vihar in East Delhi, DAV School, DPS School in Dwarka district among others.
DCP New Delhi, Devesh Kumar Mahla said, "As a precautionary measure and based on the information, we have checked all the schools and nothing has been found. We appeal to everyone that there is no need to panic."
The Delhi Police swiftly responded to the alarming situation, launching investigations into the origin and credibility of the threats.
Delhi Minister Atishi tweeted, "Students have been evacuated and those premises are being searched by Delhi Police. So far nothing has been found in any of the schools. We are in constant touch with the Police and the schools"
According to officials, Sanskriti School, Mayur Vihar, and DPS School in Dwarka district received the ominous warnings through PCR calls, raising concerns about the safety of students and faculty.
However, no explosive devices have been discovered so far.
In a statement to the press, DIG and Additional Commissioner of Police (L&O) Shivhari Meena confirmed, "Information was received via email regarding a bomb threat at DPS Noida. Teams of Noida Police, fire tenders, and Bomb Disposal Squad are present at the spot. Students have been sent back home. Checking is underway, so far we have not received anything"
Responding to the threats, schools swiftly enacted safety protocols, sending students back home as a precautionary measure.
Parents were alerted through messages, urging them to collect their children from the school premises at the earliest.
"This is to inform you that the school has received an email that threatens the safety and security of the students. As a precautionary measure, we are sending the students back home immediately. Private commuters please arrange to collect your child from the school premises as soon as possible from the respective gates. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. Principal’s Office," read a message from one of the affected schools in the Delhi-NCR region.
While the exact nature of the threats remains under investigation, authorities suspect a single individual may be behind the coordinated scare tactics.
