Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday recovered and defused a mortar shell, officials said. The Army bomb disposal squad first took possession of the live munition and later defused it.
The live shell was recovered during digging work near an Army unit in the Rampur area of North Kashmir, they added. The area was quickly secured, and the police were also informed about the recovery, officials said.
The shell was safely disposed of by an Army bomb disposal squad in the presence of police, the officials said. There was no loss of life or property during the operation, they added.
Meanwhile, security forces in the Jammu division are constantly conducting combing operations in the forest areas of Kathua and Samba, following successive counter-terror operations and confrontations with terrorists in the region.
The police, paramilitary forces, and Army are jointly working to strengthen the security grid in the region ahead of Republic Day.
In addition, security forces have spotted multiple Pakistani drones along the International Border and Line of Control over the past few days in Samba, Rajouri, Kathua, and Doda districts.
Additionally, Jammu and Kashmir police are conducting security checks at nakas established around high-profile and security-sensitive places in the Kashmir Valley. The authorities in the Union Territory are also taking constant measures to prevent any untoward incident or law and order situation ahead of Republic Day.
