Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav is set to distribute ₹115 crore in bonus payments to 3.6 million tendu leaf collectors for their 2023 harvest during a state-level programme in Karahal, Sheopur district, on Thursday.
According to an official release, the initiative will benefit 52,305 tendu leaf collectors from 89 minor forest produce committees across six forest divisions in the Gwalior and Shivpuri forest circles, including the Sheopur division.
The programme will also see CM Yadav inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for various development projects. In 2023, the tendu leaf collection rate was set at ₹3,000 per standard sack, but the Chief Minister has announced an increase to ₹4,000 per sack for 2024.
In Sheopur district, 16 minor forest produce cooperative societies operate under the District Small Forest Produce Cooperative Union Limited Sheopur, serving 12,849 tendu leaf collectors. Last year, the target for tendu leaf collection was 22,490 standard sacks.
During the event, the Chief Minister will inaugurate 13 development projects worth ₹21.28 crore and lay the foundation stone for 188 construction projects worth ₹16 crore across 80 villages in 63 gram panchayats in the Vijaypur area under the Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana.
Additionally, the foundation stone will be laid for the beautification of Sant Shri Raidas (Regar) Ghat in Ward No. 20 of Sheopur city, a project valued at ₹30 lakh. The installation of a statue and pedestal for former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna awardee Chaudhary Charan Singh in Sheopur, valued at ₹9 lakh, will also commence, according to the release.
