Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced on Sunday that the state government is exploring the introduction of "Vande Metro" projects to enhance public transport in urban areas.
Speaking to reporters after a review meeting on ongoing development projects in Indore, Yadav said, “We are considering the implementation of Vande Metro to improve urban public transport. The current metro rail can operate at a maximum speed of 80 kilometres per hour, while the Vande Metro, which can run on existing broad-gauge lines, can reach speeds of up to 160 kilometres per hour.”
He also assured that Ujjain would be connected by metro rail ahead of the Simhastha Kumbh Mela in 2028.
Yadav highlighted plans to speed up the construction of Indore’s metro project and tackle traffic congestion with elevated roads.
The chief minister added that the state is moving quickly towards establishing a metropolitan authority by merging parts of Indore, Ujjain, Dewas, and Dhar districts.
“We have prepared a blueprint to form metropolitan authorities in four cities. However, the most feasible reports are for Indore and Ujjain. Metropolitan authorities will also be established in the remaining metro areas,” he said.
During the meeting, Yadav directed officials to ensure coordinated development between urban and rural areas of Indore. He mentioned that since 2012, 29 villages have been added to Indore’s municipal limits, with plans for improved drinking water, roads, sewage, and other essential services.
The review was attended by State Urban Development and Housing Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, Indore MP Shankar Lalwani, and Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav.
