In light of a surge in terror attacks in the Kashmir Valley, Member of Parliament for Srinagar, S, has called for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to be held accountable for recent security failures.
Ruhullah expressed his dismay over an attack on two migrant workers in Budgam district on Friday. In a post on X, he stated, “Saddened by the news of the terrorist attack on the civilians in Mazhama Budgam. My sympathies and prayers are with the victims and their families.”
He condemned the attack and questioned the effectiveness of the security apparatus under the current central administration, which directly oversees Jammu and Kashmir.
“The BJP regime, which is directly in control of the security in J&K, should be held accountable for these repeated failures,” he added.
Ruhullah raised concerns about a possible link between the recent uptick in attacks and the recent elections in Jammu and Kashmir, asking, “Why this sudden rise in these attacks immediately after the recent elections?”
He pointed out that Jammu and Kashmir is currently administered directly from New Delhi, which he argues exacerbates tensions between the elected government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
Experts warn that this disconnect may create a vacuum that could be exploited by anti-national elements operating in the region.
Additionally, Chief Minister advisor Nasir Aslam Wani stated that Jammu and Kashmir is not a typical state that can be governed under a dual setup like Delhi.
“The statehood should be immediately restored to J&K,” he asserted.
The recent terror attacks have brought Jammu and Kashmir back onto the terror radar, a region that had otherwise been witnessing relative calm since 2019.
