Rajya Sabha MP Kartikeya Sharma met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi on Friday. The two held a detailed discussion on three major road-related problems affecting Panchkula in Haryana.
The first issue discussed was the poor condition of the Pinjore–Nalagarh four-lane highway (NH-105). This National Highway is an important industrial corridor connecting Haryana with Himachal Pradesh. Several stretches of the road, especially near Pinjore and Sukhomajri, are in bad shape with large potholes and broken layers, making travel difficult and unsafe.
Sharma requested the Union Minister to direct the NHAI to carry out immediate repairs and strengthening work to ensure smoother traffic and improved road safety.
The second issue raised was the lack of street lighting on the Mauli–Bagwali road (NH-344). The MP highlighted that this busy route, used by industrial and local traffic, has no lights at all, leaving the entire stretch dark at night. He said this increases the risk of accidents and suggested preparing a special project to install streetlights to improve visibility and safety.
The third issue was related to the Himalayan Expressway (Pinjore Bypass). Sharma pointed out that during its construction, NHAI failed to build adequate retaining walls, which has weakened the foundations of several houses along the road. Recent rains caused boundary walls to collapse and soil to erode, endangering the lives of nearby residents. He urged the Minister to order a technical survey and ensure new retaining walls are built quickly to prevent loss of life or property.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari took note of all three issues seriously. He approved the letters submitted by Sharma, marked them for action, and instructed ministry officials to take prompt steps. He assured the MP that these projects would be treated as a priority in the interest of public safety and welfare.
