Due to ongoing restoration work, the administration on Saturday allowed traffic to ply on the Mughal Road days after its closure.
Traffic is plying on the Mughal Road and SSG road for the light motor vehicles (LMVs), while the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) remains closed, officials said on Saturday morning.
Traffic department officials said the movement of the light motor vehicles (LMVS) was going on smoothly on the Mughal Road and the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri (SSG) road. He said the National Highway connecting Jammu with Srinagar remained closed for vehicular movement due to ongoing restoration work.
He later advised people not to undertake any journey on NH-44 until the restoration work was completed.
“Don’t pay heed to rumours. Please check the status of roads at the Traffic Police Twitter handle, Facebook page, and TCUs before travelling,” the official said.
A J&K Traffic Police post on X read, “Traffic is plying on Mughal Road (only LMVs) and SSG road as per advisory. However, Jammu-Srinagar NHW is still closed for vehicular movement.”
Jammu and Kashmir, like much of the North Indian belt, has been battered by the monsoon rains since August 26.
The heavy rainfall has killed more than 130 people and destroyed over 90 residential houses in multiple districts, while landslides washed away several roads and disrupted surface traffic in J&K.
