People take part in a procession for immersion of 'Mumbai Cha Raja' idol of Lord Ganesha as part of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival celebrations, in Mumbai, Saturday.

Amidst the rhythmic beats of 'dhol-tasha' and clouds of 'gulal,' thousands of devotees flocked to the streets of Mumbai on Saturday, enduring the rain for the immersion processions of Ganesh idols. This day, known as Anant Chaturdashi, marks the final day of the 10-day Ganpati festival.

The roads were filled with people participating in the 'visarjan' processions as beautifully decorated idols of Lord Ganesh began their final journey. Colorful 'rangolis' were drawn on the roads where the processions were expected to pass, despite parts of the city experiencing light to moderate rain since the morning.

In Lalbaug, a central Mumbai neighbourhood famous for its iconic Ganapati mandals, the immersion processions started with the idols from Tejukaya, Ganesh Gully, and several other mandals. As the majestic idols emerged from their 'pandals' (temporary shrines), loud chants of "Ganpati Bappa Morya, Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar Ya" (O Lord Ganpati, come quickly next year) filled the air.

The procession for the renowned Lalbaugcha Raja, which draws massive crowds during the festival, had not yet started, as final preparations were underway. The idol was set to make its way to Girgaon Chowpatty for immersion.

Thousands of people lined the streets of Lalbaug and other major procession routes to bid farewell to the beloved deity. With prayers on their lips, they came to witness the vibrant spectacle, which was filled with music, dance, and clouds of red 'gulal'.

Crowds also gathered at the Shroff Building in Lalbaug, where the traditional "Pushpvrishti" (flower shower) is performed on the Ganpati idols. Many had already lined both sides of the roads, waiting patiently to catch a glimpse and receive 'darshan' (blessing) from the revered idols.

People also lined the main road leading to Girgaon Chowpatty, where most of the prominent idols from areas such as Fort, Girgaon, Mazgaon, Byculla, Dadar, Matunga, Sion, and Chembur would pass during their immersion processions.
